The Inmate – Book Review

Blurb

When Brooke returned to her hometown after years away, her decision to take a job as a nurse at the local maximum-security men’s prison surprised many. Unbeknownst to everyone, including her colleagues and neighbours, Brooke harboured a hidden connection to one of the inmates, Shane Nelson, her high school sweetheart.

Their past was filled with youthful passion and promises, but circumstances led Shane down a troubled path that ultimately resulted in his imprisonment. The nature of Shane’s crime remained a closely guarded secret, creating an air of mystery and speculation within the community.

As Brooke navigated the challenges of her new role within the prison walls, she found herself grappling with the emotions tied to her shared history with Shane. Balancing professionalism and personal feelings became a delicate dance, especially as the town started buzzing with curiosity about the enigmatic inmate and the unresolved questions surrounding his incarceration.

“Brooke’s Dilemma,” as it came to be known, explores the intricacies of love, redemption, and the hidden complexities that arise when past and present collide.

My Thoughts

For my first Frieda McFadden read, this is a good one, it definitely opened me up to exploring her other books. Usually I can get a sense of where the character development is going, however this one was tricky because it was mainly in one person point of view the whole way through. So this left a mystery element until the end, which is fun.

My suspicions and thoughts changed so many times throughout this book, and I’m not too sure I’m happy with how the story turned out, its not quite the ending I was hoping for lets just put it that way. I was hooked the whole way through still.
