It Ends With Us – Book Review

*Trigger warning with this one, it includes rape and domestic violence.*

Blurb

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine that she grew up – she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

My Thoughts

There is something so real and raw about this one, the way that the manipulation is shown, even I was rooting for Ryle and Lily by the end even though I was so disgusted by what I was reading, that just goes to show how well written it was betrayed. This is a good representation of how life isn’t always black, white and simple. The fact that it’s based on a real story gives me the chills, I can really feel that when im reading too, it doesn’t feel fictional or made up.

I won’t lie, I wasn’t really here for the Atlas parts of this story as much as I was for the Ryle and Lily parts, there was just something so much more gripping about the present day. I think that’s because the book didn’t really open us up to Atlas as an adult very much, so Atlas as a teen I couldn’t really connect to very well, whereas we got to know Ryle throughout the whole story.

Author

International and #1 New York Times bestselling author of romance, YA, thriller, women’s fiction and paranormal romance. It Ends With Us is Colleen Hoovers Number 1 rated book, it’s everyone’s faviourite of hers by a long shot.

Conclusion

The battle that Lily has with what to do about Ryle towards the end is a real representation of how difficult it can be to do what’s best for yourself even when it’s not truly what your heart wants you to do. As awful as it is, even I was rooting for Lily and Ryle because of how beautifully it was written. Coleen really pulls at the heart strings and has you feeling all kinds of different emotions in this story, so be warned! Lily represents a strong, empowered woman and I really hope I can be that strong one day if I need to be. These kind of stories just really open my eyes up to how much we have to protect our hearts.
