Confess – Book Review

Blurb

Auburn Reed has lost everything important to her. In her fight to rebuild her shattered life, she has her goals in sight and there is no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search for a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry. For once Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping a major secret from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything Auburn loves most, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

To save their relationship, all Owen has to do is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin.

My Thoughts

Oh my! I love this book. I don’t know if it’s because it’s the first Colleen Hoover book I read but it will 100% stay with me forever, I get all the feels just reading the blurb back now! ah. I sat and read it in 2 days, back-to-back, nothing else mattered. As the twists unraveled I was on the edge of my bed, there was literally no way I wasn’t finishing it before I went out for the evening! These are the best kind of books aren’t they? After reading Confess I knew I needed more Colleen books in my life and that’s where my obsession began.

Out of all of them, this is probably one of the lighter books of hers, which is why I enjoyed it so much as my first book. If you are looking at which one you should start with I would 100% recommend this one.

Author

In November 2011, Hoover began writing her debut novel, Slammed, with no intention of getting published. She was inspired by a lyric, “decide what to be and go be it”, from an Avert Brothers song, “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise,” and incorporated Avert Brothers lyrics throughout the story. Hoover self-published Slammed in January 2012. Hoover states that she published the novel so her mother, who had just gotten an Amazon Kindle, could read it. A sequel, Point of Retreat, was published in February 2012. After a few months, Slammed was reviewed and given 5 stars by book blogger Maryse Black, after which sales rapidly took off for Hoover’s first two books. Slammed and Point of Retreat reached #8 and #18, respectively, on the New York Times Best Seller list in August of that year. Atria Books picked up the novels and republished them on August 10, 2012. A third book in the series, This Girl, was published in April 2013. After the success of Slammed, Hoover quit her job in the social work field to become a full-time writer.

Conclusion

I really want to relive this one for the first time again, take me back! Doing this review is making me tempted to re read it I won’t lie! Confess is completely underrated in my opinion, so go read it!! See for yourself. 😉
