Maybe that had been the problem all along: Maria Weston had wanted to be friends with me, but I let her down.

Maria Weston wants to be friends.

But Maria Weston has been dead for more than twenty-five years.

Readers thoughts on this…

“What a book! This book was everything I want a psychological thriller to be. It had twists. It had turns. It was gripping and shocking and I couldn’t put it down.”

“Ooooooh, that sounds creepy and believe me FRIEND REQUEST is a crazy ride from start to finish.”

Because Milly’s mother is a serial killer. And blood is thicker than water…

Readers thoughts on this…

“Extraordinary. Controversial. Explosive.”

“This is predicted to be one of the big books of 2017 which it very well may be. I tend to take these predictions now and publicity hype with a pinch of salt as really it can’t be predicted. I do think regardless it will be a popular book and a great one for book clubs due to the great discussion that could be generated!”

Best Day Ever

Author – Kaira Rouda

A loving husband. The perfect killer?

‘I wonder if Mia thinks I have a dark side. Most likely as far as she knows, I am just her dear loving husband.’

Paul Strom has spent years building his perfect life: glittering career, beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in the suburbs.

But he also has his secrets. That’s why Paul has promised his wife a romantic weekend getaway. He proclaims this day, a warm Friday in May, will be the best day ever.

Paul loves his wife, really, he does. But he also wants to get rid of her. And with every hour that passes, Paul ticks off another stage in his elaborately laid plan…

Readers thoughts on this…

“BEST DAY EVER by KAIRA ROUDA is a dark, thrilling, and sinister tale of deception and betrayal that takes place over a 24-hr period and had me flipping those pages with anticipation and fascination finishing the book in less than 24-hrs.  I could not put this book down!”

“This book was great! I was absorbed from beginning to end.”

Keep Her Safe

Author – Sophie Hannah

She’s the most famous murder victim in America. What if she’s not dead?

Pushed to the breaking point, Cara Burrows flees her home and family and escapes to a five-star spa resort she can’t afford. Late at night, exhausted and desperate, she lets herself into her hotel room and is shocked to find it already occupied — by a man and a teenage girl.

A simple mistake at the front desk… but soon Cara realizes that the girl she saw alive and well in the hotel room is someone she can’t possibly have seen: the most famous murder victim in the country, Melody Chapa, whose parents are serving natural life sentences for her murder.

Cara doesn’t know what to trust — everything she’s read and heard about the case, or the evidence of her own eyes. Did she really see Melody? And is she prepared to ask herself that question and answer it honestly if it means risking her own life?

Readers thoughts on this…

“For me, “Did You See Melody” by Sophie Hannah is one of the better 5 star books I have read in a long while. In my opinion this story is an excellent example of psychological crime thrillers at its best.”

“I really enjoyed this. Sophie Hannah is just such a good storyteller, I was engaged from the beginning and the book held my attention to the very end.”

The Blackbird Season

Author – Kate Moretti

In a quiet town, a thousand dead starlings fall onto a school playing field. As journalists flock to the scene, one of them catches a teacher, Nate Winters, embracing a female student. The student claims that she and Nate are having an affair, sending shockwaves through the close-knit community. Then the student disappears, and the police have only one suspect: Nate.

Nate’s wife, Alecia, is left wondering if she ever really knew her seemingly loving husband. Nate’s co-worker, Bridget, is determined to prove his innocence and find the missing student. But both women will have to ask themselves do they really know what Nate is capable of?

Readers thoughts on this…

“When an author can fluently change the overall feel of each book they write, they have my attention. This is precisely how I feel about Kate Moretti; while you could technically group her last two books as psychological thrillers, the details ensure a wholly separate reading experience.”

“The Blackbird Season is a dark, slow-burning, eerie, haunting, suspenseful psychological thriller with some great elements to make it a haunting read.”

The Blind

Author – A.F Brady

Every morning, psychiatrist Sam James gets up at six forty-five. She has a shower, drinks a cup of coffee, then puts on her make-up.

She ignores the empty bottles piling up by her door.

On this particular morning, Sam is informed of a new patient’s arrival at Manhattan’s most notorious institution. Reputed to be deranged and dangerous, Richard is just the kind of impossible case Sam has built her reputation on. She is certain that she is the right doctor to treat such a difficult patient.

But then Sam meets Richard. And Richard seems totally sane.

Let the mind games begin.

Readers thoughts on this…

“I really enjoyed this book!! I love when psychological thrillers actually have an element of psychology to them, which The Blind definitely had.”

“OH MY GOSH, THAT ENDING, THOUGH. This book was not what I expected and I am so glad because it was even better. It’s so hard to believe that this is Brady’s first novel. I can’t wait to see what else she writes because I absolutely loved this!”

Odd Child Out

Author – Gilly Macmillan

Two best friends. One terrible event.

Abdi Mahal and Noah Sadler have been inseparable since they met. They’ve stuck together, even when their peers have excluded them. But when a horrifying incident leaves Noah in a coma and fighting for his life, Abdi is too traumatised to say anything about what happened.

DI Jim Clemo, freshly returned to work after an enforced leave of absence, is tasked to investigate. And against a backdrop of a city where racial tensions are running high, he must determine what really happened to drive two teenage boys into a situation so desperate.

Everything rests on one of the boys talking.

But one can’t talk.

And one won’t.

Readers thoughts on this…

“This is my first read of author Gilly Macmillan and I was really impressed at this novel that speaks to us of the social and political issues that are permeating and dividing our world. It is a multilayered emotive, atmospheric and character driven mystery featuring the recent return of Detective Jim Clemo after undergoing counselling with Dr Manelli on his mandatory leave.”

“Deeply absorbing literary suspense.”

Little Secrets

Author – Anna Snoekstra

To keep little secrets, they tell big lies…

‘I am not sick.
I just like the little dolls…
I think I’ll break one soon.’

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare. A tiny porcelain doll appearing on your doorstep. Bright blonde hair, rosy cheeks, even a little blue dress. A perfect replica of your six-year-old daughter.

But then anonymous letters from ‘The Doll Collector’ begin to arrive. And in the small town where everyone has their own little secrets, no one is safe from suspicion.

Because you can never really trust the people who live just along the street…

Readers thoughts on this…

“Creepy, gritty, and exceptionally atmospheric!”I really enjoyed Little Secrets by Anna Snoekstra, my first by this author.

“It was dark, gritty and handled the stifling atmosphere of a small town down on its luck so well. I could feel the hopelessness of it all.”

The Last Mrs. Parrish

“The Last Mrs. Parrish was a very compelling psychological suspense novel.”

“The story is entertaining and addictive! I couldn’t put it down.
The writing is effortless, easy and flows at a naturally fast pace.”

As the days get shorter I’m looking for inspiration on what books I can read, as the Winter season is my time of the year to read some good books.

Friend Request and Best Day are the ones that jump out to me, so I’ll be putting these on my wishlist. Thanks for taking the time to compile these suggestions1

  • Chris

Another great list of books you’ve managed to publish here – I always manage to find something new to read when I visit your site!

The book that caught my attention the most is Friend Request, as I’m a bit of a horror addict (geek!). I’m wondering if this was the basis behind the film released last year (with the same name)?

  • Chrissie Spurgeon

    I love this post!

Your descriptions of each book are really enticing , and very persuasive in making the reader of your post want to find out more about them.

Anyone who is searching for their next good book to read would really benefit from going to your website.

I have picked out some of your list. Lie To Me, sounds intriguing.

Best Day Ever, he loves her but wants to get rid of her? Beware of whom you marry.

The Blind. People who seem “normal” but are not, the world is full of them.

  • Mahmood

Oh! I am interested in reading such a collection of books, if I have the time to read them all. However, I’ll be more amused if they were filmed in a movie 🙂 I know that my wife would be dead happy if she finds out about this page 🙂 She loves reading such kind of thrilling mysterious stories more than I do. Thanks for sharing!

  • Chris

thank you for your recommendations, I am looking for a book for my next holiday and it seems like a couple of these would do the trick nicely. I usually go for fantasy books but thought that I would try something different so it is nice to get some suggestions from someone knowledgeable like yourself!

  • Pet

I usually don’t like to read thriller books just because I have a hard time falling asleep after I have read a chapter…It is however a genre that I do enjoy and it is intriguing to read what goes on in the criminal minds out there. I will try to be brave and get a new book to read, which of these are the least scary?

  • bigbux1

I find Keep Her Safe by Sophie Hannah intriguing. I’m pondering what will become of Cara and Chapa. I guess I should explore further to find out…

  • Christine

Great books recommendations. My daughter and I love thrillers stories. We watch thrillers movies and read similar books. There are so many in the market, we have to spend some time selecting a right book.

Your list of books will be in my shopping list for Christmas 🙂

Looking forward for more book lists from you. Thank you.

Have you read all the books in the list?

    • admin

thank you for checking out my website, I havent read these just yet but they’re on my list to read! All the books ive read are under the review section of my website 🙂

  • Joe

Hi there, I’m really glad you did a list of books on this genre of books as I think they are my favourite.

I love the way a lot of the time they make you think one thing, then they introduce thrilling plot twits or things which you just can’t wrap your head around. They almost make me look at life differently, dramatic I know.

There are quite a few books here which I haven’t read so I will definitely check them out for sure, thank you!

  • Nuttanee

I saw the title Lie to Me and thought of a tv show right away but there is nothing related to it after I read your synopsis lol sounds interesting I am gonna give it a try. Uuuu and that Best day ever, sounds so good. I love the scenarios where they turn the loving husband into a killer lol you just can’t trust anybody nowadays can’t you? This reminds me of a Stephen Kings book, my husband a serial killer, gives me creeps. Will try out the books since the holiday season is here. Happy holidays!

  • Matiss

The first sentence of the article sealed the deal for me. Right off the bat I could tell that this is something for me. So, delighted I came across the article. The books on this list got me really intrigued. Would love to read them all. Especially the “Best Day Ever” by Kaira Rouda.

If I’m not mistaken, I’ve heard good things about the book called Friend Request. Meaning that it rocked. Well, sucked for the book characters, but was overall a great book. By any chance, isn’t it available on the big screen? I think I’ve heard people comparing the movie with the book. I might be wrong though.

All in all such a great post, thank you for all the insights and book suggestions. I really appreciate it. Will definitely take advantage of it.

Cheers, and have a Great One!

  • Michel

Oh my word, you are after my own heart. I am addicted to psychological thrillers, both in movie and book form. There is nothing better than a great can’t put down book during the holiday season, when you can afford to stay up all night reading and not have to worry about being tired at work the next day.

I think I am most drawn to Best Day Ever on your list. The evil husband family drama looks like just the thing to keep me out of mischief this December.

  • Juliet

Thank you for these book reviews, I love stories especially those with a mystery locked into it.  The first book has a lot of suspense in it, I’m curious. In the book “good me, bad me” one is curious to know if Anna did have a new start in life. I wonder what happened to her mother when she eventually went for trial.

  • Grace

I love watching psychological thrillers movie but haven’t had much time to read books of such genre (imagine what had I missed out all this time?)

Geez, just by reading the synopsis you have written, it sent chills down my spine. I am so hooked up now. Those stories all seems so interesting and mysterious, now I don’t know which one should I start reading from.

The friend request from Maria Weston who has been dead for 25 years sounds really intriguing. I guess this book will hit the first on my list! Thank you for your recommendation!

  • John

    Hey Jayde,

some great ideas for good reads.  I especially like the look of the little secrets book, looks like it could really get you going.  It always amazes me where they get the ideas for these stories, but they do entertain us.

Thanks for taking the time to compile this great list.

  • Lok Which

I have been making research for books to read in this coming new year and for books to gift my sister and luckily for me I came across something enticing and I really love the concept of this books and am sure my sister will also love it. I think  I’ve seen what I’m searching for, so I should make a stop to my research. Thanks for this recommendation.

  • Cathy

Wow, I am reading all these heart-grasping synopsis at 9.30 p.m. and even though I am not a thriller reader, you’ve got me hooked. Recently, I have just purchased an audiobook subscription and I am trying to explore different genre for varieties. I wonder how it’s like to ‘hear’ thriller stories, instead of reading them? Must be spooky, but I might just give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

  • Luke

    Hello Jayde,

I really like your article and your website cause I`m also the bookworm. I love to read and psychological thriller is actually my best genre. There is one good thing that now is winter, I have more time to read! Your collection or a list of books of psychological thrillers is awesome. I would choose book `Little Secrets` by Anna Snoekstra. Thanks for sharing with us!

  • Lady Esther

Thank you so much for this great list of interesting books.  Due to my commute (living in New York City), I read a lot.  So reading on my iPad and carrying a book is part of my daily routine.  I have to say the list is very tempting.  The following jump out: The Last Mrs Parrish, Friend Request and Keep Her Safe (now this one reminds me of the famous Lindbergh kidnapping, not sure why).  at me and will certainly put them on my reading list and also on my wish list.  We also celebrate Three Kings Day, so I am expecting more holiday gifts….love it!  Definitely will add them to my list:

Always enjoy a good book and I also pass them on to a friend, we read similar books and do this with the books we read to save a little and share our thoughts when we have coffee together.

    Thank you for the recommendation,

    Lady Esther.

  • Evald

    Hey there,

thanks for such informative article, I found it to be very helpful and I’ve really enjoyed reading it. As far as psychological thrillers from this list go, well one of them definitely caught a lot of my attention. And that is ”Good Me, Bad Me”, as I find the whole storyline of Annie’s mother being a serial killer to be very unique and captivating. I am truly very thrilled to discover how Annie is going to handle this situation of her mom being a serial killer and whether she will tell on her mom or will they handle this situation differently, therefore leading to some very unexpected moments and situations which will twist up the story. I think there will be a very compelling and engaging relationship storyline between these 2 characters, and I also expect that there will be a lot of mysteries, violent crimes and very hard & panic inducing decisions for our characters to make during very intense circumstances. I am also interested in learning how Annie adapts to the new family and what kind of influence does the new family has on Annie’s and her mother relationship, or if it has any at all. Oh, and I also expect the atmosphere in this thriller to be spine-chilling and gruesome filled with dark and distressing environments.

Keep up the great work and Happy New Year ! 😉

  • kmv

Thank you!  You saved me a ton of time finding some good books for my wife.  Getting ready to head out on a little vacation and she likes it when I surprise her with some new reading.  Only this is when I pick them on my own…I don’t do so well.  It’s get to have sites like yours that do the leg work for guys like me!

For sure I am going to pick up The Blind…who knows, I might even read that one.

Looking forward to more Top 10 lists from you.  I’ve bookmarked your site and will for sure come back the next time we need some good reads.

  • jagi

Wow! All these look some great. I love thrillers as well enjoy the ministry of finding out what they discover as they go along in their journey. It seems like you have done a very good job of providing some tidbits of information. I’m really interested in buying these books. There are a couple that really stood out for me. Friend request, and best day ever.

  • Eden

I like psychological thrillers, they are just the best. These top 10 are very engaging reads, where you want to find out more and your descriptions are really good. I haven’t read a book in ages, but these would tempt me into reading books again. Lie To Me is my favourite out of all of these.

  • Karina

Hi there, this is a great list of books you’ve managed to publish here – I’m adding most of them to my list of books to read. I’ve found that I’m reading a lot more books since getting my kindle. Will have to check out a few more of your lists now 🙂

    Thanks again

  • Rick

Just looking at your list of psychological thrillers … my favorite type of books to read. Just wondering if Friend request by Laura Marshall  was the inspiration for the movie of the same name ? I really enjoy the summaries to the books that you have provided . thanks  for your recommendations !! I am leaning towards The Blind  for my next read .

  • -johnny

Thank you for your Book reviews! I have actually been looking at lied to me, it keeps coming up in audible. I think this review is going to push me into actually buying listen listening to it. Only issue I am SOOOOO behind right now lol. Have you ever read the prettiest one?

  • Alice

These are definitely a must-have for anyone like me who enjoys suspense stories, thank you for posting. I must admit, my fascination with psycho thrillers started after seeing the movie Silence of the Lambs.

Among your recommendations, I would really like to have Lie To Me and Best Day Ever. I checked out your link and while I’m thrilled that Lie To Me will be shipped by Wednesday, January 16, to my current location (outside US) should I choose to purchase it today, unfortunately Best Day Ever is not currently available for purchase. Perhaps it has been sold out.

  • Dan Stevens

I love to read.  A few books on the list is something that I would read. I think I’ll have to add to my book collection.  I have read a lot of different books and thrillers are my favorite.  Is there one book on the list that you would recommend over the rest for me to start with?  Thank you.

  • Steve

Well, you have managed to put together a list of 10 books that would send my wife running for the hills! For me, however, you’ve put together quite an intriguing number of titles together. I absolutely love reading and you have given me more than enough books to add to my list. I’ve read a few psychological thrillers in the past and enjoyed them, so it’s nice to see some authors represented that I had not heard of. Great job!

    • Jayde Butcher

Thank you for taking the time to read this list, I’m sure your wife would be spoilt for choice here! Happy reading for you both, maybe you could pick one each and then swap when you’ve finished reading!

  • Mark Baker

Just the perfect post for me to have found. I want to buy a few ‘real’ novels (As opposed to digital books) to read at night before going to sleep. I’m a great reader and while I love reading digitally it’s not good to do so before sleep.

Your recommendations are very helpful. The three that appeal most are, ‘Good Me, Bad me’, ‘Best day Ever’  and ‘The Blind’.

Thank you for the enticing descriptions and I also like reading the comments of those who have already read them.

    • Jayde Butcher

Yeah sometimes you just can’t beat a good old hardback book to read at night, and they always look great next to the bed don’t they, something to look forward too when you get home. Good Me, Bad Me would be my first choice I think! Happy reading 🙂

  • Brenda

All these Psychological Thrillers seem very interesting. I really enjoy books with unpredictable endings, as this encourages me to keep reading. The first one that I would read would have yo be Lie to Me. This reminds me of a great suspense movie, you want to find out what will happen, yet you don’t want it to end.

Your site will definitely be my reference for a great read. It’s so much easier to be able to choose some really good books based on your awesome summaries.

  • Sujandar Mahesan

Oh I love thriller books and these are Psychological Thrillers which is going to be a heck of a book to read. Out of all the books listed in this article I love the book “Keep Her Safe”. It sounds really like a mystery suspense with thriller included. I can’t wait to read the book.

Thank you for the review, it was really to understand and read the reviews.

  • Bjorn
