Author – Lisa Hall.
Book Review For The Party.
It was just a party. But it turned into her worst nightmare.
When Rachel wakes up in a strange room, the morning after a neighbor’s party, she has no memory of what happened the night before. Why did her husband leave her alone at the party? Did they row? Why are Rachel’s arms so bruised? And why are her neighbours and friends so vague about what really happened?
Little by little, Rachel pieces together the devastating events that took place in a friend’s house, at a party where she should have been safe. Everyone remembers what happened that night differently, and everyone has something to hide. But someone knows the truth about what happened to Rachel. And she’s determined to find them.
The Party is the gripping new novel from bestseller Lisa Hall.
I gave this 4 stars.
This book is full of lies, adultery, secrets and revenge, I have to say well done to Lisa Hall for creating this brilliant Thriller, it had me hooked from the beginning to the very end. A party is never just a party in these kinds of stories right? Rachel wishes she stayed home this particular New Years Eve.
I felt paranoid with Rachel throughout this whole book. Who did this to her? What actually happened at that party that night? I couldn’t put the book down until I found out. Sometimes with these kinds of books, they really drag it out, but I didn’t feel like that at all with this one, it was fast paced, and we found out all the information we needed in good time. Peace by peace, we found out what really happened, after plenty of guesses.
Rachel is a strong woman, who despite people telling her to just let it go, she doesn’t stop until she finds out exactly what happened to her that night, and I love that about this book, it really shows a powerful woman, rather than a weak woman who can be manipulated with this situation.
Why I Enjoyed This Read
I loved the flashbacks to before the party, as we got to learn more about her relationships and it allowed us to doubt every character, knowing one of them is guilty. Then the parts where we hear about after the party, has us wondering who Rachel can actually trust and who she can’t.
As Rachel tries to guess who did this to her, you feel like you are doing the detective work with her and I loved that. Her doubts help us discover other hidden secrets about the surrounding people that she wasn’t expecting to find. At some points you feel like she may never find out what really happened that night, because her memories and the lack of evidence isn’t in her favor. We really do go along on the tense, frustrating journey of finding the guilty party with Rachel.
Who Would Enjoy This Read
if you want a mystery thriller book that leaves you guessing till the very end, this is the one you need to pick up. This is a book that will shock you as well as excite you. Questions you have throughout the book, all get answered as you read on. People who have read other Lisa Hall books, they will be very pleased with this one.
The plot twist had me so shocked, I was not expecting that at all. Throughout it all, I had my suspicions of one character, but I was completely wrong. I was pleasantly surprised by this, as I didn’t want it to be predictable and it certainly wasn’t.
The only negatives I can give this book is at times I did find the characters all to be unlikable, at times I was rolling my eyes, but this was redeemed when Rachel stood up for herself and didn’t give up.
I’m excited to read other Lisa Hall books now after reading this one.
