Book Review For Something In The Way
It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken…no matter how hard we tried.
I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.
I gave this 3 stars
‘Forbidden’ love is so addictive!! When you see the word forbidden you know it’s going to be so exciting, and this book was exciting, but also realistic, with the usual everyday stuff thrown in.
Why I Enjoyed This Read
Lake is adorable and all she wants is to be in love. To be loved and appreciated. Didn’t we all want that at 16? The way she see’s the world is sad because she expects everything to be beautiful and easy, and it’s far from it. Her need to impress her dad is sad to read.
Tiffany is more realistic but my god she’s annoying, she just thinks the world owes her and everyone else around her can suck it, and I don’t like her at all. She also wants to be loved, but unlike Lake, she’ll do whatever it takes, without caring about anyone else around her.
Manning, the way he holds back his feelings for the 16-year old is hard to watch, he is a good man, but when his feeling become too unbearable to handle , he’s left with no choice. Holding onto Tiffany so he can be close to Lake, it’s heartbreaking, two people who want something so much, but they can’t have it.
Who Would Enjoy This Read
Anyone who loves forbidden love, a love that isn’t allowed, its even more exciting than a usual love story. Read to see if they break the rules or manage to stay apart.
I gave it 3 stars because as good as it was, I feel like there was something missing, can’t put my finger on it though.
